Signs That Your Garage Door Needs A Repair

Blog

A garage door refers to a large opening which provides the entrance to a car garage. The doors can either be manually or electronically operated depending on the system adopted for opening or closing. The garage doors may be subjected to damage especially if maintenance is not done promptly. When a garage door is failing, it will require repair services. Here are some of the symptoms that can be used to detect a defecting garage door:

  1. Noise Coming From the Garage Doors – It is quite common for some garage door types to make noise. Especially the garage roller doors which use chains in their systems. However, the sound produced by this should be regular and smooth, something you are already used to. However, when the noise is aggressive and wrenching, then the door requires immediate attention before falling apart. Some of the issues caused by the noise include a damaged motor. This is quite a common problem with garage doors, especially the roller types. To sort this out, certain repair services can be done. However, fixing will not entirely resolve the noise, the best way to go about this, therefore, would be replacing the entire motor completely. Another issue that leads to noise in the system comes from non-lubricated springs. This can be fixed through basic lubrication.
  2. Slow Response Time – An automatic garage door is intended to offer convenience to the user whenever required. Once you press on the remote, it should respond with immediate effect. However, with time the remote might not function as properly. This issue can be as a result of dead batteries in the remote control which require replacing. Before calling a maintenance specialist, ensure that the batteries are installed well. It may also be as a result of a malfunction. This would require repair services from a qualified professional. If the repair does not work, then you will have to purchase a new remote for the system. Lastly, the remote sensors might be broken, to deal with this, contact your repair service provider who will diagnose the system and provide replacements where necessary.
  3. An Unusual Rise in the Electric Bills – Automated garage doors require some electricity to perform flawlessly. The electricity is what operates all the components leading to the opening of your gate. For instance, garage roller doors need the electric current to operate the doors. However, some issues may cause your garage doors to become energy inefficient which leads to higher electricity bills. To test this, one has to look at the weather sealant around the garage door. When the rubber sealant ages, the system becomes inefficient. The rubber weather stripping is needed to create an airtight seal. However, when this happens, you will require a replacement to ensure no energy is wasted during operation.
